1st Edition C1945. A Powell Powell Colour book and very uncommon. This edition includes 1) The Ballad of Roaring Tom illustrated by Thomas Daniel and David Anthony Kerr,2) Robbing Hood by Powell Perry 3) Alice but not Alice in Wonderland Illustrated by Powell Perry 4) The Akond of Swot illustrated by Frank Bryson, 5) Do Ray Me Illustrated by Gustave Dore, 6) Sawdust Leslie Butler.
During WW2 Perry was stationed at the camouflage centre Farnham Castle where he would have rubbed shoulders with artists such as Julian Trevelyan and Roland Penrose and the magician Jasper Maskelyne, Pauline Baynes to name just a few. Perry's family owned a printing firm in Putney and he persuaded some of the artists at the Camouflage Centre to moonlight, producing a number of wartime children's titles modelled to some extent on Carrington's Picture Puffin series. The book is near very good and bright. Small loss to paper hinge. Light edge rubbing. Nice clean contents. Name to endpaper.
