
Two Original Signed Letter Bases by the Women's Rights Campaigner Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. Both dated 1871 with one in her full married name and the other in her maiden name. She was married in 1871 so quite an unusual set from the same year. Both from separate letters and individually the date and signature have been stuck together from each letter. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson 1836 – 1917 was an English physician and suffragist. She was the first woman to qualify in Britain as a physician and surgeon. She was the co-founder of the first hospital staffed by women, the first dean of a British medical school, the first woman in Britain to be elected to a school board and, as mayor of Aldeburgh, the first female mayor in Britain. From a autograph book kept by A. P. Watt (1834-1914), founder of A. P. Watt & Son in 1875, the world's first literary agents. Sizes are 112mm x 70mm and 75mm x 55mm. Condition is good.
