
1st Edition 1895. Presentation inscription from Marquess of Dufferin and Ava to Charles-Henri-Auguste Schefer. Schefer was a orientalist and academic administrator, as well as minister plenipotentiary and bibliophile. Schefer combined a brilliant career in the French Foreign Ministry (Ministère des affaires étrangères) with a productive life in scholarship. He was appointed professor of Persian at the Ecole des languages orientales in 1857, and served as its president from 1867 until his death . Frederick Temple Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood 21 June 1826 12 February 1902) was a British public servant and prominent member of Victorian society. In his youth he was a popular figure in the court of Queen Victoria, and became well known to the public after publishing a best-selling account of his travels in the North Atlantic.
