
New Editions 1853-1856. Early English Editions of the Two Musketeer books. The first English Edition was in 1846. These two editions are the first translations by William Robson. London: George Routledge and Co., 1853. First edition of Robson's translation and first appeared in the Routledge Railway Library series. This Robson translation has been used for many fine press editions of The Three Musketeers, including both the Limited Editions Club as well as the Easton Press edition. It was also used for the 1894 edition with Leloir plates. The Routledge Railway Library series "was a popular cheap reprint series designed to be sold to train travellers on the fast growing British railway network in the Victorian period. These were sold through W. H. Smith's bookstalls on railway platforms. Both volumes bound up as one. Half title and preface present on the Three Musketeers but no half title on Twenty Years After. without half titles or advertisements in a mid Victorian leather binding. Book is very good and in bright condition. Edges lightly rubbed.Contents good.
