5th Imp of the 1st Edition 1899. Sir John Fortescue introduced Henry Williamson's most famous book Tarka the Otter. HW was also a great admirer of The Story of a Red Deer by Sir John Fortescue, whose family seat was nearby at Castle Hill, in the tiny hamlet of Filleigh, North Devon. In early 1925 HW asked Walter de la Mare if he would approach Sir John on his behalf to ask if he would be willing to write an introduction to Tarka. This approach proving successful, in due course HW sent off a typescript copy of his book to Sir John. From a large collection of Henry Williamson's and his family's books. Includes a specially commissioned small bookplate affixed inside the book confirming this. Book is very good and quite bright. Spine tips lightly rubbed. Cloth lightly marked in places. Contents good. Pages edges rough cut.
