New Edition 1888. This copy belonged to poet Edward Thomas and has been signed by him to the ffep. Books belonging to the poet seldom appear on the market. Edward Thomas was born in 1878 and became a writer of fine prose and poetry, considered to be an original writer about life and the human consciousness. He wrote poetry late in his career, having been encouraged by his friend Robert Frost. He was killed in action on the Western Front in 1917. The Paris Sketch Book is a travel book published by William Makepeace Thackeray starting in 1831, and published as a compilation in 1840. Witty, scholarly, full of anecdotes, insights, historical references, and a constant comparison between what he sees as the French and the English character, the Paris Sketchbook is a blast from the past with surprising topical observations, which tends to demonstrate that culture “never changes”. Book is very good and in bright condition. Spine a little lightened and gilt dulled. Contents good. Age toning to endpapers. A few small repaired closed tears to some pages.
