1st Edition 1956. Presentation copy Given by C S Lewis to F. H. P. Knight. Inscribed by the recipient F H P Knight in the year of publication on the front free endpaper, "F. H. P. Knight, from C. S. Lewis. THE INSCRIPTION IS NOT BY C S LEWIS BUT BY HIS FRIEND. November 1956" confirming this. Lewis valued Knight's opinions on literature and occasionally sent Knight his works for critiques. They also discussed their shared love for the miraculous and the fantastic as fellow Christians and science fiction fans. Francis H. P. Knight (born c.1886) was a member of the British Interplanetary Society, the oldest existing organization promoting space exploration. Lewis and Knight discussed science fiction in their letters, comparing books that they both had read and sharing future reading suggestions. Following Knight's review of Out of the Silent Planet in 1938, Lewis wrote to him: "Thank you very much for your letter; it is always very pleasant to find that one's book has been liked - specially by a fellow Christian and fellow Churchman" (18 Nov1938). A few days later, Lewis commented: "Another thing I learn [from what you wrote] is that my sales are likely to be small since most 'S-F-Fans' are clearly anti-Christian and most Christians are not space fans!" (27 Nov). The Last Battle is the 7th and final book in the Narnia series.
