1st Edition 2nd Imp 1936. Sir Reginald George Stapledon 1882-1960 was an English grassland scientist and pioneer environmentalist.. Long inscription in the hand of Henry Williamson. Also includes two letters and a 1940 broadsheet from the Government 'If the Invader Comes' One letter dated 1940 is from a admirer and discusses the Flax of Dream. The second letter dated 1940 is from a friend Rolf Gardiner in Dorset which discuses the war, land changes, socialism and German politics. Henry Rolf Gardiner 1902-1971 was an English rural revivalist, helping to bring back folk dance styles including Morris dancing and sword dancing. He founded groups significant in the British history of organic farming. He was said to have sympathised with Nazism and participated in inter-war far right politics. He organised summer camps with music, dance and community aims across class and cultures. His forestry methods were far ahead of their time and he was a founder member of The Soil Association. Illustrated plates and maps in rear pocket. From a large collection of Henry Williamson's and his family's books. Includes a specially commissioned small bookplate affixed inside the book confirming this. The book is good++ and quite bright. Contents good. The wrapper is good and bright. Loss to edge. Edge rubbed and nicked, A few closed tears to edges. Wrapper age toned and with darkened spine.
