1st Edition 1954. A unique book signed by Ronald Searle to the front free end paper. The inscription is in black pen and reads; "Nov 19, 1954, Happy Birthday Fitz! with love & best wishes from Kaye and Ronald Carp." Below his inscription Ronald Searle has drawn a humorous picture of two amorous fish. Provenance: From the estate of Fitzwillliam Barrington. Ronald Searle and Fitzwillliam Barrington became close friends during World War II when both were captured after the fall of Singapore and incarcerated in notorious Changi Prison between 1942 and 1945. They both survived an horrific regime in the midst of which a lifetime friendship was forged. After the war Fitz (as he was known by his family and friends) worked for the publisher Max Parrish and was able to facilitate the publication of Searle's work. Searle reciprocated by giving his friend an inscribed copy of every book he had published. Numerous B/W illustrations by Ronald Searle. Book is near fine and bright. Contents good. The wrapper is very good++ and bright. Edges ligtly rubbed and snicked.
