1st Edition 1916. A promptly written and produced Somme book conceived as a propaganda showcase for the cheerfulness of the British Empire in uniform with chapters such as 'The Spirit Of The British Soldier', 'An Irish Officer Describes The Indescribable', 'The Cockney Fighter', 'The Australian As A Fighter', 'A Cool Canadian', 'The South African' etc. Quite a rare book with it's wrapper. Book is very good and bright. Contents average with age toned pages. Page edges foxed and age toned. Small name to endpaper. The wrapper is poor but a rare survivor. Edges rubbed, creased and nicked. A few closed tears to edges with tape to the rear. Tape ghosting marks to wrapper. Wrapper soiled and marked. Loss to spine tips and edges.
