
Signed and Inscribed Undated Telegram by Lord Sackville Cecil. Two sided hand written letter/telegram detailing his reservation of two train engineers for a specific role within the business. Lord Sackville Cecil 1848-1898 was the eldest son of the 2nd Marquess of Salisbury by his 2nd wife, Lady Mary Catherine Sackville-West. He took his degree at Cambridge University and worked for Sir Charles Tilston Bright, studying the making, testing and working of telegraph cables during the laying of the West India and Panama, and of the Panama and South Pacific cables. He became director of several telegraph companies and at the time of his death was Chairman of the Brazilian Submarine Telegraph Company. He also had an interest in the railways and became Assistant General Manager of the Great Eastern Railway and General Manager of the Metropolitan District Railway. He died unmarried in 1898.
