From a large collection of letters, postcards and cards from Iris Murdoch and John Bayley to Penelope and Ralph Tanner. Includes a few with original Iris Murdoch drawings. There were written circa 1977-1989 with many undated. Most are conversational but a few with philosophical references. The Tanners were close friends and neighbours of Murdoch and Bayley in Steeple Ashton, Oxfordshire (Penelope Tanner was also the biographer of the writer Ethel M. Dell and Dr Ralph Tanner, a social anthropologist who was Evelyn Waugh’s batman in 1942.
