An Original Letter Written and Signed by Walter Savage Landor. Undated 1830. Letter reads - My dear friend, Being still uncertain whether you are again the Lady of the Lake, or are entangled in the wilderness of London, I shall direct to you at the dear good Admiral's. Pardon me, I was as nearly as possible making a slip of the pen and writing the dear good old Admiral's. No such thing. You must not allow him to be old these dozen years. If he has the happiness of seeing you often, he will not be. I did fancy I should never move farther than to the Crescent. But two ladies have expressed a desire to see Llanthony Abbey - what could I do less than escort them there for a visit of eight or ten days. I have not seen the place for forty four years, and never intended to see it again, but the Fates and the Ladies break down men's strongest resolutions. Now tell me that Papa is well again, and that the other Papa, with his three dear little ones, enjoy as much health and happiness as is wished them by that dull old creature W. Landor'
Walter Savage Landor 1775 – 1864 was an English writer, poet, and activist. His best known works were the prose Imaginary Conversations, and the poem Rose Aylmer, but the critical acclaim he received from contemporary poets and reviewers was not matched by public popularity. As remarkable as his work was, it was equalled by his rumbustious character and lively temperament. Both his writing and political activism, such as his support for Lajos Kossuth and Giuseppe Garibaldi, were imbued with his passion for liberal and republican causes. He befriended and influenced the next generation of literary reformers such as Charles Dickens and Robert Browning.. Size is 175mm x 115mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases.
