
1st Edition 1848. John Ward 1781-1837 a mystic, was born in the south of Ireland near Cork. Without education, he became a shipwright in Bristol but for much of his life worked as a shoemaker in London. His life as a Calvinist, Methodist, Baptist and Sandemanian preacher, his rejection by the Southcottians, his claim to be the recipient of an 'illumination' and the establishment of his own 'church' in 1825 are all well documented. Styling himself 'Zion' or 'Shiloh', the last ten years of his life were spent travelling and preaching interspersed with several periods of imprisonment. He was a prolific writer, publishing numerous tracts and leaving many others in manuscript.My last: (No man hurt:) Man deity, or, Creation by Christ Jesus : as developed after the manner of man; as wrote years since, while the instrument (man) of the author, Messiah, Zion-Ward, was imprisoned through a false charge, of being a blasphemet.
