New Edition 1912. From the connected family of C S Lewis. Campbell College Belfast Prize Bookplate 24th July 1914 to front endpaper. Awarded to J.T. Lewis. JOSEPH TEGART LEWIS (TED) was first cousin of C.S. LEWIS (JACK) As boys they lived near to one another & were close friends (Known as JACK & TED) Both attended Campbell College - Joseph 1909-1916. He had 2 Daughters (Beth & Joan) who used to hide in the large wardrobes at their Grandfathers house & were the inspiration for C.S.LEWIS THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. ‘TED’ joined the Medical Corps in the 2nd World War & was taken prisoner of war at the fall of Tobruk in 1942. C.S.Lewis wrote to Ted every week while he was a prisoner of war . After, he was the first British Medical Officer to enter BELSEN Concentration Camp. Superbly Bound in full polished tree calf, Spine with elaborate gilt decoration and leather title label. Campbell College Belfast crest to front. Binding in very good clean condition. Oxford Binding. All edges marbled. Original marbled endpapers Mullan & Son Booksellers, 4 Donegall Place, Belfast, Sticker.
A superbly bound book, with a wonderful provenance. Book is very good++ and bright. Light edge rubbing. Small dark mark to spine top. Contents good. Bookplate to endpaper.
