The letter reads 'My dear Sir, I'm glad of Mr Metivier's letter, as it helps to make all right: Please to read the enclosed, and then send it to him. Though the polyglot learning is all on his side, I have not erred: see within. Tell me whether or not I am to return you his letter: and I dare say I shall receive one from himself not as a --- but as a genuine Metivier. Truly yours, M.F. Tupper'. Martin Farquhar Tupper 1810-1889 was an English writer, and poet, and the author of Proverbial Philosophy. Size of letter is 228mm x 180mm. Folding centre crease. Light paper gum to blank rear.
