
An Original Letter embossed Chief Secretary Office, Dublin Castle and signed/written by future Prime Minister Arthur Balfour. Letter dated 1891. The letter discusses Balfour looking forward to an address he will be giving to the students of the University of Glasgow. A good letter when he was the Irish secretary before he became Prime Minster. William Arthur James Balfour, 1st Earl of Balfour, traditionally Scottish 1848-1930, also known as Lord Balfour, was a British Conservative statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1902 to 1905. As foreign secretary in the Lloyd George ministry, he issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917 on behalf of the cabinet. Provenance: From the family of autograph collector Emily Mary Rose Lee (1869-1949), wife of Colonel William Crawford Walton (1864-1937). Emily was the daughter of William Lee, Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Glasgow from 1874 to 1886, and granddaughter of John Lee (1779-1859), Principal of Edinburgh University from 1840 to 1859.Size is 182mm x 112mm.
