
An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by Writer Samuel Parr to Georgina Mary Ann Waddington. Dated 1809. The letter to Mrs Waddington praises her ‘numerous and brilliant accomplishments’; further comments about his book Character of Charles Fox, acknowledges the unpopularity of his views, expresses curiosity to see Mrs Waddingtons daughters ; from the conviction that your maternal care for the improvements of their minds will not have led them astray’ Samuel Parr 1747 – 1825, was an English schoolmaster, writer, minister and Doctor of Law. He was known in his time for political writing, and as "the Whig Johnson", though his reputation has lasted less well than Samuel Johnson's, and the resemblances were at a superficial level; Parr was no prose stylist, even if he was an influential literary figure. A prolific correspondent, he kept up with many of his pupils and involved himself widely in intellectual and political life. Georgina Mary Ann Waddington’s daughter was Augusta Hall, Baroness Llanover 1802 – 1896, born Augusta Waddington, was a Welsh heiress, best known as a patron of the Welsh arts. Size is 198mm x 166mm.
