
An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by Socialist and Indian Nationalist Annie Besant to Major General Sir Alfred Edward Turner. Dated 1900. A letter to General Turner about meeting up before she travels to India. This is probably to Major General Sir Alfred Edward Turner. Annie Besant 1847 – 1933 was a British Socialist, theosophist, freemason, women's rights and Home Rule activist, educationist, and campaigner for Indian nationalism. She was an ardent supporter of both Irish and Indian self-rule. She became the first female president of the Indian National Congress in 1917. Major-General Sir Alfred Edward Turner, KCB 1842 – 1918 was a British Army officer of the late nineteenth century, who served in administrative posts in Ireland. Size is 175mm x 115mm.
