
An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter and Part Manuscript of his novel “The Tower of London by English Writer William Harrison Ainsworth. Dated 1866. The letter dated October seventeen, 1840, also comes with a manuscript of his novel “The Tower of London ", written over three sides and set out in various acts for a drama. The letter partly reads. " In order to give you some idea of what I propose to do with the " Tower " as a drama, I enclose you a programme of 3 acts - the last I have not yet decided upon " The Tower of London is a novel by William Harrison Ainsworth serially published in 1840. It is a historical romance that describes the history of Lady Jane Grey from her short-lived time as Queen of England to her execution. William Harrison Ainsworth 1805 – 1882 was an English historical novelist. His first success as a writer came with Rookwood in 1834, which features Dick Turpin as its leading character. In 1839 he published another novel featuring a highwayman, Jack Sheppard. From 1840 to 1842 he edited Bentley's Miscellany, from 1842 to 1853, Ainsworth's Magazine and subsequently The New Monthly Magazine. His Lancashire novels cover altogether 400 years and include The Lancashire Witches, 1848, Mervyn Clitheroe, 1857, and The Leaguer of Lathom. Jack Sheppard, Guy Fawkes, 1841, Old St Paul's, 1841, Windsor Castle, 1843, and The Lancashire Witches are regarded as his most successful novels. Size 200mm x 130mm. In good condition.
