
An Original Handwritten a Signed Letter by English Potter and Tile Designer William Frend De Morgan. Dated 1909. The letter about arranging a visit from "my reader" with a little humour adding that he cannot promise to stay in "if he finds me just going to visit the Archbishop of Canterbury I shall have to go - but otherwise he can take me for a walk in Battersea Park" signed in a hurry Wm De M. William Frend De Morgan 1839 – 1917 was an English potter, tile designer and novelist. A lifelong friend of William Morris, he designed tiles, stained glass and furniture for Morris & Co. from 1863 to 1872. His tiles often recall medieval or Islamic design patterns. He applied innovative glazes and firing techniques. Galleons and fish were common motifs, as were "fantastical" birds and animals. Many of De Morgan's tiles were designed to create intricate patterns when several were laid together. Friends with William Morris His designs were used by Morris & co. There are collections of his work in the V&A, Birmingham Museum, National Gallery of Canada etc.
