
An Original Handwritten Letter and Envelope Signed by Artist John Piper. Dated 1963. Letter reads 'Dear Mr Giles, Thank you so much for your letter. I have not worked at Glyndebourne for more than 10 years - the last 'Don Giovanni' but one was the latest thing I did there - and I fear I have no sketches whatever that are relevant to productions there. They all disappeared long ago! I am so sorry. Yours sincerely, John Piper'' John Egerton Christmas Piper 1903-1992 was an English painter, printmaker and designer of stained-glass windows and both opera and theatre sets. His work often focused on the British landscape, especially churches and monuments, and included tapestry designs, book jackets, screen-prints, photography, fabrics and ceramics. Size is 205mm x 140mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases.
