
An Original Handwritten Letter Signed by Sir James Caird to Levi Leone. Dated 1869. A letter recommending the work of Mr. John Thornhill Harrison, particularly his writings on pollution. It also mentioned Harrison’s work with Brunel on the North Devon Line. Sir James Caird 1816-1892 was a Scottish agriculturist, agricultural writer, and politician. His views were based on economic liberalism which led to him forming an advisory relationship to Sir Robert Peel and later under Benjamin Disraeli. He examined the Irish famine and still later served on the commission to examine the famines in India. Levi Leone, 1821-1888. English jurist and statistician. His chief work, History of British Commerce and of the Economic Progress of the British Nation, 1763-1870, is considered to be a partisan account of British economic development. Size is 185mm x 115mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases. Light creasing/folding to edges.
