
An Original Handwritten Letter Signed by English biographer Harriet Grote. Dated 1878. A letter asking Maine to join her at a evening function at the family home of 12 Saville Row. The attendees to the dinner included The Master of Balliol, the Dean of Westminster, Prof A Bain and Prof Henry Smith. Harriet Grote (1792–1878) was an English biographer. She was married to George Grote and was acquainted with many of the English philosophical radicals of the earlier 19th century. Harriet signed the suffrage petition of 1866. She spoke at the first public meeting of the London National Society for Women's Suffrage in 1869. She spoke again at Clementia Taylor's 1870 meeting in the Hanover Square Rooms, her suffragist arguments being reported by Helen Blackburn. Size is 178mm x 112mm. Condition is good.
