An Original Hand Written and Signed letter by Stephen Spender. lLetter dated 1989 and reads - 'Dear M. Magreune, Thank you very much for your letter and for telephoning. I am delighted to hear now that M. Claude-Michel Cluny is going to put the volume and translations in his collection. En principle I would like some day to come to Caen but at present I have so much work that I don't want to add further engagements to the many I already have. Here is a copy of a selection of my poems in a limited edition which someone in Finland has produced. I hope you will accept this as a token in gratitude for all the work you have done translating me! Yours sincerely, Stephen Spender'
. Sir Stephen Harold Spender 1909-1995 was an English poet, novelist and essayist whose work concentrated on themes of social injustice and the class struggle. He was appointed Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry by the United States Library of Congress in 1965. Size of letter is 255mm x 205mm. Folding centre crease.
