An Original Hand Written Letter and Envelope Signed by Mary Adelaide of Teck, Mother of Queen Mary to Sarah Ellis Lady in Waiting to Queen Mary. Dated 1893. The letter reads - Dear Mrs Ellis, I must apologise for not having sent my list with my contribution yesterday, but the lateness of arrival of my vice presidents parcels caused so many changes in my original list that it had to be re-written out, for which there was not time first or last and I did not detain the van for fear of its contents arriving at the institute after you had left, Here it is ! And I hope it will be found accurate! In a day or two , I expect to have from 50 to 100 more articles to send in, so that I trust 2,800 may be a number put against my name! The Indian parcel fro Miss Calome containing 46 things, beautifully packed reached me quite safely. Will you amiably acknowledge it, or shall I? I will take case the 'Exchanges' are well look after. Princess Mary Adelaide Wilhelmina Elizabeth of Cambridge 1833-1897, later Duchess of Teck, was a member of the British royal family. She was one of the first royals to patronise a wide range of charities. Mary Adelaide was the daughter of Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge, and Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel. Her father was the seventh son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. Mary Adelaide married Francis, Duke of Teck, with whom she had four children. The Duke and Duchess of Teck's daughter, "May", was the wife of King George V and became known as Queen Mary. Through her daughter, Mary Adelaide was the grandmother of the British kings Edward VIII and George VI. Size is 150 x 100mm. Condition is good. Folding crease. A little age toning
