A Small Collection of Original Handwritten Letters, a Typed Letter and Signed Photograph by Actor Sir Francis Robert Benson to Sir Algernon Tudor-Craig. Dated between 1910 and 1915. Some undated. The typed letter is with regards to a performance and the use of various clothing props. It also discusses a conversation with R Kipling and the use of one of his verses. A few letters of thanks for various help on projects and a letter in relation to a Fete at the Palace of Versailles. Sir Francis Robert Benson 1858-1939, known professionally as Frank Benson or F. R. Benson, was an English actor-manager. He founded his own company in 1883 and produced all but two of Shakespeare's plays. His thirty-year association with the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre and the annual Shakespeare Festival in Stratford-upon-Avon laid down foundations for the creation of the Royal Shakespeare Company after his death. Tudor-Craig was an officer in the 4th (militia) battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles. He served as Instructor of Musketry with the 8th Provisional Battalion in 1902. From an album of his letters. Sizes various. Photograph is 235mm x 190mm. Condition is good. Light folding crease. Light gum marks to rear.
