
A Rare Original Handwritten Letter and Signed by Irish Naturalist William Thompson Introducing Irish Geologist James McAdam. Dated1849 from Belfast. A letter introducing a Mr James McAdams Captain who is a very practical geologist to a friend in London. William Thompson 1805-1852 was an Irish naturalist celebrated for his founding studies of the natural history of Ireland, especially in ornithology and marine biology. Thompson published numerous notes on the distribution, breeding, eggs, habitat, song, plumage, behavior, nesting and food of birds. These formed the basis of his four-volume The Natural History of Ireland, and were much used by contemporary and later authors such as Francis Orpen Morris. James MacAdam 1801– 1861 was an Irish naturalist and geologist. From a autograph book kept by A. P. Watt (1834-1914), founder of A. P. Watt & Son in 1875, the world's first literary agents. Size is 100mm x 85mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases.
